A recipient of various awards, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award and the Primetime Emmy Award, and two Golden Globe Awards, she has always been a top performer among the top actresses paid in the world. Time magazine named her one of the top 100 influential people around the globe in 2006 and 2015, and Forbes listed her as one of the World's 100 Most Powerful Women in 2021 and 2019. Forbes named her the world's most powerful actress in 2021. Her net worth is believed to be $400 million. Witherspoon first appeared on screen in 1991 when she was an untrained teenager. In 1999, Witherspoon made her first breakthrough in the role of a supporting role in Cruel Intentions. She was also famous for her portrayal of Tracy Flick as Election's black comedy. Her performances in Legally Blonde (2001 and its sequel 2003) as well as in Sweet Home Alabama (2002 ) brought her greater recognition. She was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in the musical biopic Walk the Line. Following a slump in her career that included Water for Elephants (2011) was her only box office success, Witherspoon decided to make an appearance and produced and play Cheryl Strayed, the drama Wild (2014). This led to her getting a second Oscar Award nomination for Best Actress. Since then, she has been working primarily on television, producing and starring in various women-led literary adaptations produced by her company Hello Sunshine. They include the HBO drama series Big Little Lies (2017-2019) as well as The Apple TV+ drama series The Morning Show (2019-present) as well as the Hulu miniseries Little Fires Everywhere (2020). She was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding Limited Series for the first one. She was the producer of the adaptations to film of Gone Girl (2014) as along with Where the Crawdads Sing (1922). Witherspoon also owns Draper James, a clothing brand, and is active in advocacy groups for children and women. She sits on the Children's Defense Fund's Board and was honoured to be the chair of the Avon Foundation's women's cause charity in 2007.
